The latest American to call the English Premier League his “home” happened this afternoon after Sunderland announced a four-year deal to sign US striker Jozy Altidore from AZ Alkmaar. The transfer fee is rumored to be £8.5million.
Altidore’s first chance to play for Sunderland in the Premier League is the weekend of August 17-19 when the Black Cats play at home against Fulham.
“The striker is set to join up with Head Coach Paolo Di Canio and his new team mates at their training camp in Italy on Tuesday,” said a statement on the club website.
Altidore joined AZ in 2011, scoring 38 goals in 67 appearances. He has also scored 17 goals in 60 appearances for the US national team.
Personally, I’m extremely looking forward to seeing Altidore play in the Premier League again. Don’t be surprised if Sunderland starts having more fans Stateside once Altidore starts banging in the goals in the Premier League.
