West Ham United has reportedly put Harry Maguire on their January transfer wish list. The Mirror has suggested that a loan move could be explored. Maguire previously moved to Manchester United in a $90 million transfer in 2019. The England international has, however, fallen down the pecking order since United appointed Erik ten Hag as manager.
West Ham could be selling to make room for Harry Maguire
The Hammers could be in need of a new central defender soon, as Craig Dawson is a target for Wolves. West Ham are supposedly ready to part with their 32-year-old defender, but Wolves have not yet agreed a fee.
The West Midlands club have already had a bid rejected by West Ham within the last week. Ironically enough, the two teams faced off last weekend. Dawson was, however, not included in David Moyes’ team for the match. Wolves went on to win the game, 1-0.
West Ham are surprisingly sitting in the relegation zone of the Premier League table. Moyes has managed to win just four of the side’s 19 top flight matches so far this season. West Ham needs the reinforcements. Yet, attacking options are also on the wish list. The Hammers have just 15 total goals in league play during the current campaign.
Man United manager wants to keep defender
While West Ham want Maguire, it could be difficult to pry him away from Manchester. Ten Hag has previously blocked any notion of a departure for Maguire. The Dutchman supposedly still feels as if the defender is a key player to his team.
Nevertheless, the England international has made just four Premier League starts during the season. Erik ten Hag overlooked Maguire for a recent FA Cup matchup with struggling Everton as well. In fact, ten Hag has recently opted to select full back Luke Shaw in Maguire’s typical place on the pitch.
Maguire ranks fifth on the pecking order in central defenders at the moment at United. Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, and Shaw are all seemingly ahead of Maguire in the list.
It remains to be seen if Maguire will possibly push for a United exit. However, the Red Devils are still currently in four competitions and the defender could hope for more playing time soon.
