Khedira and Dybala pass respective medicals ahead of Juve moves

Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira and Palermo striker Paulo Dybala have passed their respective medicals and are expected to be presented as Juventus players in the coming days.

Khedira was once a fixture in Real Madrid’s starting eleven under former manager Jose Mourinho. However the combination of the German’s injuries and the club’s wealth of midfielding options (Toni Kroos, James Rodriguez, Isco, Asier Illarramendi and Lucas Silva) left the player on the outside looking in.

Back in November, it was learned Madrid refused to renew the midfielder’s contract since the club felt slighted after his refusal to accept a new deal last season. It was also rumored that club officials believed the German international had lost his importance in the Madrid dressing room.

Then, in March, Khedira confirmed he would leave Real Madrid during an interview with the German publication Kicker.

There had been speculation the midfielder would chose a return to Germany. However, Khedira has chosen the Old Lady over several European suitors because of the club’s “footballing pedigree”.

Khedira will arrive on a free transfer and is expected to sign a four-year contract worth approximately £3 million per season plus bonuses.

As for Paulo Dybala, the Palermo striker had been linked with moves to Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal. But the understanding had always been that Juventus were the front runners to land the talented Argentine’s signature.

Juventus reportedly agreed to pay Palermo’s £29 million asking price for the striker, and Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio believes Dybala has agreed a five-year contract worth £1.6 million per season, plus performances bonuses.

Di Marzio also claims Juventus will play Palermo an initial transfer fee of £20 million, plus £6 million in performance bonuses and £3 million worth of player contracts. The total package would ultimately satisfy Palermo’s original price tag for the 21-year-old striker.

Dybala’s transfer is expected to be officially announced in the next 24-48 hours, with Khedira’s arrival being confirmed shortly thereafter.
