Ruben Amorim has managed to stabilize a critical period at Manchester United, but lingering injuries have exposed the squad’s lack of depth. As the season nears its end, the coach is reportedly eyeing the signing of Portugal‘s hero against Denmark.

Despite sitting 13th in the Premier League, United has progressed to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Nations League and remains a strong contender for the trophy. However, one of the key concerns has been the lack of reinforcements in the attack, as both Antony and Marcus Rashford have yet to be adequately replaced, leaving the team short on attacking options.

According to The Mirror, Manchester United is keen to pursue the signing of Francisco Trincao in the summer transfer window. The forward is seen as a viable option due to his relatively modest price tag and his previous experience working with Amorim.

With Portugal on the brink of being eliminated from the UEFA Nations League quarterfinals, Trincao stepped up in a crucial moment. Substituted in the 81st minute of the 5-2 win over Denmark, he scored the equalizing goal in the 86th minute to take the game to extra time. Then, in the 91st minute, Trincao completed his brace, securing Portugal’s place in the Final Four.

A revitalized Trincao under Amorim

Trincao’s career took a turn after his initial struggles. After joining Barcelona for €30 million in 2020, he found it difficult to establish himself and was relegated to a substitute role. With his career faltering, Amorim brought him in on loan to Sporting CP, and one year later, secured a permanent deal for just €7 million. Under Amorim’s guidance, Trincao transformed into a more complete player.

During his time with Amorim at Sporting, Trincao made 118 appearances, scoring 26 goals and providing 23 assists. His recent form earned him a call-up to the Portugal national team under coach Roberto Martinez, and his standout performance against Denmark highlighted his resurgence.

According to The Mirror, Trincao’s price tag is set at £30 million ($38.8 million), with Barcelona holding a buy-option clause ranging between $20 million and $25 million. However, the prospect of reuniting with former coach Ruben Amorim and joining his Portugal teammates Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot could be key factors in Trincao’s potential move to Manchester United.
