The UEFA Champions League has become one of the most iconic and sought-after trophies in world soccer—often seen as the line that separates great teams from the sport’s true elite. Now, as PSG prepare for the 2024–25 final, fans are once again asking: how many times have Paris Saint-Germain lifted the UCL trophy?

Since the club’s founding in 1970, Paris Saint-Germain have won the UEFA Champions League once. That historic title came in the 2024–25 edition, when PSG dismantled Inter Milan 5–0—a dominant performance that now stands as the largest margin of victory in a Champions League final.

In addition to their Champions League success, PSG have also claimed titles in other European competitions. They lifted the now-defunct UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1995–96, a tournament reserved for domestic cup champions, and later secured the 2001 UEFA Intertoto Cup, which served as a qualifier for the UEFA Cup (now the Europa League).

The Champions League: PSG’s target since 2011

Historically, PSG were not considered a European powerhouse. Before 2011, the club had qualified for the Champions League only five times—in the 1986–87, 1994–95, 1997–98, 2000–01, and 2004–05 seasons. Their deepest run came in 1994–95, when they reached the semifinals, but European success largely eluded them.

That narrative changed dramatically in June 2011, when Qatar Sports Investments became PSG’s majority owner under the leadership of current club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi. Armed with significant financial backing and a bold vision, PSG began building a star-studded roster with the Champions League as the ultimate goal.

Since the takeover, PSG have qualified for the Champions League in 12 out of 13 seasons, missing only the 2011–12 edition. Their best campaign came in 2019–20, but Bayern Munich ultimately dashed their dreams in what was the club’s first-ever Champions League final.

That season’s squad featured global stars like Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Angel Di Maria, and Marco Verratti. In a tightly contested final with few clear-cut chances, former PSG player Kingsley Coman scored the decisive goal in the 59th minute. Paris were unable to find an equalizer, ending their historic run just short of the finish line.
