Patrice Evra Signs One Year Extension at Manchester United

Patrice Evra has signed a one-year contract extension at Manchester United.

The French left back has decided to stay at Old Trafford, taking the World Cup footballer into his tenth season at United.

So far, Evra has made 379 appearances at the club, scoring 10 goals. The defender was initially signed from Monaco in January 2006, and has gone on to win five Premier League titles, three League Cups and one UEFA Champions League during his time in England.

The decision by Manchester United and Patrice Evra to extend the Frenchman’s contract by one year is a surprise to many. Earlier this year, speculation was that Evra would not renew his contract and would decide to return to Monaco or play with Inter Milan.

While the news regarding the contract extension is promising for Evra, it may not be great news for United supporters who have seen Evra’s talent decline in recent years. With Louis Van Gaal not joining up with Manchester United until after the Netherlands exit after World Cup 2014, it’s possible that the Dutch boss may consider Evra to play more of a B-role in the 2014/15 season if United can sign a more gifted left back such as Luke Shaw from Southampton.
