Liverpool target Luciano Vietto set to sign with Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid are set to complete the signing of Villarreal striker Luciano Vietto for £15 million, according to reports emanating from Spain.

Back in April, it was learned that Vietto was open to a move to Atletico Madrid with many pointing towards the Argentine striker’s relationship with Diego Simeone.

Simeone signed Vietto from Estudiantes while he was in charge of Racing Club, before giving the player his senior debut in October 2011.

It now appears the talented Argentine, who has been tagged the ‘new Sergio Aguero’, is set to rejoin his former coach in the Spanish capital next season.

Vietto issued a ‘come and get me’ plea to Atletico Madrid in March, and it appears the La Liga side is set to beat out competition from Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham for the talented Argentine’s signature.

Jorge Cysterpiller, Vietto’s agent, met with officials at Atletico Madrid earlier today in order to finalize the deal for the Villarreal striker, and it is expected that an official announcement of the deal is imminent.

The 21-year-old enjoyed an impressive debut season in Spain after leaving Racing Club to sign a five-year contract with Villarreal in August 2014.

The Argentine striker scored 20 goals in all competitions and helped the Yellow Submarine earn Europa League qualification.
