FIFA has revealed a set of very colorful, vibrant Women’s World Cup posters ahead of the 2023 tournament.
The 2023 World Cup is set to be hosted jointly by Australia and New Zealand. This makes it the first men’s or women’s senior World Cup to ever be hosted across two different confederations. In 2006, Australia moved from the OFC to the AFC, leaving New Zealand as the top Oceanic team. It’s also the first Women’s World Cup to feature an expanded field to 32 teams.
Nine cities across the two nations will play host to the tournament, and each has its own poster.
Each poster features both the native (Aboriginal Australian or Māori) names of the cities in addition to English, respecting the original owners of the land. In addition, each poster also carries a central design element, the silhouettes of 3 female figures with a football in the background. This makes for a cool effect when you flip through the designs:

After the 2022 Men’s World Cup in Qatar that was effectively played entirely within a single metropolitan area, the 2023 World Cup is the opposite end of the spectrum. The nine host cites are spread across two island nations, with the two furthest stadiums being over 3,300 miles apart. The nine cities are:
- Adelaide / Tarntanya
- Auckland / Tāmaki Makaurau
- Brisbane / Meaanjin
- Dunedin / Ōtepoti
- Hamilton/ Kirikiriroa
- Melbourne/Naarm
- Perth / Boorloo
- Sydney/Gadigal
- Wellington / Te Whanganui-a-Tara

Each poster design shares the aforementioned host city names and silhouettes, a ball, the tournament logo and sponsors. They are each made unique with colors, imagery and symbolism that ties in to each host. Local landmarks, nature and wildlife, and the culture of each host really shines through.
