Atlético Madrid is preparing for a summer revolution, aiming to inject new talent into the squad to boost their competitiveness. The club recognizes that fresh additions are needed to contend for major titles after their campaign faltered in the crucial stages.

Like the busy 2024 summer transfer window, the next one promises to be long and transformational. The most expensive summer purchases could include Julian, Sorloth, Gallagher, and Le Normand.

Carlos Bucero is spearheading this rebuilding effort as the leader of the sporting division. It’s his first solo window without Andrea Berta. The Italian has taken over at Arsenal. Bucero now will look to construct a new Atlético.

Two major players have emerged as the top targets: Cuti Romero and Àlex Baena. Securing both would require a significant investment exceeding €100 million.

Romero Prioritized, Tottenham a Hurdle

Cuti Romero, the Argentinian defender, is Atlético’s priority to reinforce their central defense. Only Giménez and Le Normand are assured to stay, with Azpilicueta and Witsel leaving and doubts surrounding Lenglet.

Romero’s estimated price of €70 million poses a challenge. The club hopes to lower that amount. Romero wishes to play in La Liga. His Argentinian teammates at Atlético Madrid have praised the Rojiblanca colors. The willingness of Romero to undertake a venture might determine the support needed to reach the Atleti!

Tottenham will not be selling Romero for cheap and are not willing to negogiate with buyers.

Baena offers a creative spark. His release clause is €60 million. Atlético aims to lower this fee by offering Riquelme and Lino in a player swap. Baena rejected a move to Saudi Arabia in January, and a switch to the Premier League does not fully seduce him. This might make a deal with Atlético more attractive.

Project Foundation Set

If both transfers happen, Atlético’s investment would reach around €100 million. The money would help to build the foundation for the Rojiblanco’s project that will extend all the way to 2025/2026.

Atlético Madrid’s pursuit of Romero and Baena shows an ambition to win! As always, Atleti will give it their all.
