AS Monaco Season Ticket Holders Demand A Refund

AS Monaco fans and season ticket holders woke up today to find star striker, Radamel Falcao, has been sent on loan to Manchester United only weeks after the sale of Golden Boot Winner James Rodriguez to Real Madrid and they are upset. They took to their self-published website, Planet ASM, in order to give a statement on how they feel about the sales, and demand a refund from the club for the tickets purchased.

Stating that the city hung banners and signs advertising Falcao and Rodriguez, even increased ticket prices, to only sell-off their stars was unfair advertising, “…walked around all summer with encouraging slogans and posters promising on which James Rodriguez and Radamel Falcao tried to focus the future of the club of the Rock to the top,” as stated by fans on Planet ASM.

The website references a situation with AC Milan who offered refunds to fans after a transfer season in 2012 saw Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva leaving the club after being used in several advertisements around the city and San Sirio. AC Milan’s front office seemed willing to honor the fan’s demands, and the website quoted the Vice-President of AC Milan, “AC Milan is ready, today, to pay the subscriptions from those who are not satisfied with the recruitment campaign by the club.”

Fans are understandably upset, after watching Rodriguez excel for Colombia at the World CUp in Brazil a few months ago likely gave them hope for the upcoming 2014-2015 Ligue 1 season after a mediocre showing during the 2013-2014 campaign where Rodriguez scored only 9 goals in 34 games while in Monaco. Falcao only signed with Monaco a year ago as well, but was able to score 11 goals in 19 appearances.

Those weren’t the only departures from Monaco this summer, Éric Abidal also left during the transfer window and joined Olympiacos on a two-year deal not long after signing a one-year extension with Monaco. Mounir Obbadi left as well and joined Hellas Verona on a loan deal for the 2014-2015 season.

After a disappointing second place finish last season that saw Monaco nine points behind eventual Champions Paris Saint-Germain, Monaco had a good chance to make a legitimate run at the Ligue 1 title, however with very little talent coming in to make up for the amount of players leaving their title hopes are likely gone for now.
