American World Cup Defender John Anthony Brooks who was a somewhat controversial inclusion in Jurgen Klinsmann’s United States selection is being chased by multiple Premier League clubs according to Sky Sports. The 21-year-old Hertha Berlin man played for both the Germany and the United States’ Youth National Teams before committing to the USA for his senior career, last summer.
Brooks has played 45 league games for Hertha Berlin over the past two seasons and developed a reputation as a feisty and effective defender during the second half of the recently completed Bundesliga season.
The Berlin-born defender is one of five German-American players that are on Klinsmann’s 23-man US squad. He signed for Hertha, his hometown club as a teenager and reached the reserve team in 2011 before getting being promoted to the first team a year later.
Among the clubs said to be vying for Brooks services are Aston Villa, Stoke City, Everton, West Ham and Newcastle. According to the Sky Sports report the American International is also being chased by multiple Bundesliga and Ligue Un clubs.
Brooks is in Brazil with the United States squad and will be in uniform for the Group G opener on Monday against Ghana. Brooks has four international caps with the senior United States team.
