The moment has come for Lucas Vázquez to say goodbye. In a heartfelt farewell ceremony attended by teammates, former teammates, and club directors—including president Florentino Pérez—the academy graduate officially ended his chapter with Real Madrid after 10 seasons, 402 official appearances, and 23 major titles.

“This is one of the most important days of my life, and I want to start by thanking the fans. Thank you for every applause and every gesture of support. You made me feel at home,” said Vázquez during his emotional speech. “I’ve had the privilege of sharing a locker room with legends and lifting trophies, but above all, I’ve been happy. I felt appreciated, respected, and loved.”

One of those legends he referred to is Sergio Ramos, now captain of Monterrey in Liga MX. Ramos quickly took to social media to share a tribute to his longtime friend and former teammate. To my dear Luquita, a decade in the first team of your beloved club… not bad at all, brother! he wrote, recalling their shared memories and even suggesting a potential reunion—perhaps even in Mexico.

“You leave behind a legacy of hard work, discipline, consistency, generosity, and that joyful energy we all loved in the locker room,” Ramos continued. “You’re a role model on and off the pitch. We were teammates, brothers, confidants—and we never got tired of laughing, or winning. Be proud of everything you gave to Real Madrid.”

Ramos ended his message with a warm invitation: “You are loved and missed, my Pico. See you soon, my friend.

The spirit remains

At 34, Lucas Vázquez has yet to announce his next step in professional football. But during his farewell, he made it clear that no matter where he goes, one thing will never change: I’ve fulfilled my dream. I may be leaving, but Real Madrid will never leave me. I am, and will always be, Lucas Vázquez, a Real Madrid academy player.”
