David Beckham officially and publicly announced his acquisition of a MLS franchise on Wednesday in Miami in front of 200-300 members of the media as well as local dignitaries and the Southern Region local supporters group.

While there was little news to chew on, it was an opportunity for Beckham and Miami to make headlines around the world regarding the future launch of the team, which may happen in the 2016 or 2017 season. The former Manchester United and Real Madrid footballer has a considerable amount of work ahead of him to find additional investors and acquire state funds to build a stadium, but the press conference was a first step towards reaching his goal of bringing professional soccer back to Miami.
