Wrexham Women smash record for biggest Welsh crowd

Wrexham mania is still in full effect. The Welsh team’s popularity has skyrocketed in recent months thanks to Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

The duo have also boosted interest in the club with the hit television show Welcome to Wrexham. However, while the men’s team generally receives most of the attention, Wrexham AFC Women are also getting in on the action.

The club’s women’s team is currently top of the Genero Adran North table. They have won every match in the second-tiered division this season.

Not only have they collected all three points in every game so far, but the Wrexham Women are smashing other teams.

Despite playing just 11 matches, they currently have a goal differential of +63. This is thanks to an incredible 68 goals scored on the season. No other team in the division has more than 38 total goals.

Record attendance awaits league champions

As the team is so far ahead in the standings, they have already been crowned league champions.

Nevertheless, there is still one more fixture remaining on the schedule. Wrexham Women will face second-placed Connah’s Quay Nomads on Sunday in the season finale.

The club has announced they will set a Welsh women’s team record attendance at the home game.

The previous record for attendance was set earlier this season. Cardiff City Women set the mark by selling 5,175 total tickets.

However, the Wrexham Women’s game on Sunday has already sold over 7,300 tickets. Co-owner Rob McElhenney revealed the impressive figure on Twitter and announced that he will attend the game.

Match tickets can be bought for just $1.20

“We’re delighted to have smashed the attendance record for Wrexham AFC Women’s final league game of their title-winning season,” proclaimed club CEO Fleur Robinson. “With ticket sales soaring and more seats being released, don’t miss out on buying your tickets – for just £1 each – to watch our champions be crowned at the Racecourse Ground.”

“It’s going to be a memorable occasion, and we can’t wait to see you all here for the game.”

Tickets for the upcoming game in Wrexham are still currently available. The match will be played at Racecourse Ground, typically where the men’s team features. This historic stadium can hold up to around 10,000 fans.

Everton women’s team also recently smashed their record attendance as well.

On Friday, they played their Merseyside Derby matchup with Liverpool in front of a record crowd of 22,161. The team’s previous record was just under 6,000 total fans.
