Serie A Team Of The Week – Week 24

After a midweek full of international friendlies and World Cup qualifiers, the domestic leagues in Europe were back in action over the weekend.  The 24th week of the Serie A saw 7 of 10 matches end in a draw but we don’t give the TOW award to teams that draw.  So this week’s winner of the Serie A Team Of The Week made headlines and/or played matches during the calendar week of February 9 – 15.  The winner is: Atalanta Bergamasca Calcio

During a week with the Derby della Madonnina and the 6 goal thriller in Genoa in the battle for the last Champions League spot.  The 3rd team from Lombardia were the most impressive in Week 24.  Atalanta ripped through the last undefeated team in 2009 in the  Serie A,  AS Roma.  3 goals in the span of 7 minutes in the 2nd half did in the Romans and extended Atalanta’s winning streak to 3 games.  Daniele Capelli’s goal in the 52nd minute opened the flood gates for Cristiano Doni who scored twice in the 56th & 59th minute.  Atalanta has become a streak spoiling side.  They beat Roma this past week, two weeks ago they ended Cagliari’s 6 game unbeaten streak, and who could forget their impressive 3-1 win over Inter to end the Nerazzurri’s nearly 4 month unbeaten streak.  For their impressive win over AS Roma, Atalanta Bergamasca Calcio wins The Serie A Team Of The Week.
