Serie A Results – Week 21

Midweek madness in the Serie A.  All teams were in action with plenty of drama, surprises, and teams jockeying for a better position on the table.  Fiorentina moved back into a European spot with an important 2-1 home win over Napoli.  I Viola leaped over Napoli for 6th place with goals from Mario Santana & the game winner from Riccardo Montolivo in the 79th minute.

Inter increased its lead over Juventus to 6 points when Inter beat Catania 2-0 on the road with goals from the ‘IC’ boys.  Dejan Stankovic in the 5th & Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the 71st.  Juventus lost on the road to Udinese 2-1 as Fabio Quagliarella & Antonio Di Natale scored to end Udinese’s 11-game winless streak and snap Juve’s 7-game unbeaten streak.

Roma continued their unbeaten 2009 with a 2-1 home win versus Palermo.  Francesco Totti & Matteo Brighi scored in the 1st half and held on to sink the Sicilians 3 points from a European spot. I Giallorossi are the hottest team in Italy having lost once since November 1st.

Genoa failed to gain ground on Milan in a battle of 4th versus 3rd.  Future permanent Milan resident David Beckham scored on a trademark free kick in front of England coach Fabio Capello to give Milan a 1-0 lead but Argentine assassin Diego Milito equalized in the 87th minute for a share of the points.
