Paris Saint-Germain has dominated French soccer for the past decade, capturing numerous Ligue 1 titles. However, the 2024-25 squad, led by Ousmane Dembele, has accomplished a feat that neither Lionel Messi, Neymar, nor Kylian Mbappe could achieve during their time at the club.
With a 1-0 win over Angers on Sunday, PSG reached 74 points from 28 matches, mathematically eliminating second-place Monaco from title contention. As a result, the team, coached by Luis Enrique, secured their fourth consecutive Ligue 1 championship. But this victory carries a unique distinction from the previous years.
For the first time in club history, PSG has claimed the Ligue 1 title as an unbeaten team — a feat Messi, Neymar, and Mbappe couldn’t accomplish. The Parisians finished the season with 23 wins, 5 draws, and no losses in 28 games, setting a record no other team in the league’s history has matched.
Among the deadly attacking trio, Kylian Mbappe spent the most time at PSG, joining from Monaco in 2017. Over seven Ligue 1 seasons, Mbappe won 6 titles but never managed to secure an unbeaten campaign. Despite sharing the field with Neymar and Messi, PSG couldn’t achieve this milestone until the 2024-25 season.
Luis Enrique’s side clinched the Ligue 1 title with 6 matches still to play and remains unbeaten. If they manage to maintain this record through the end of the season, PSG will become the first team in Ligue 1 history to finish the campaign without a defeat.
But PSG’s success isn’t limited to the league. They are set to face Stade Reims in the Coupe de France final on May 24 and are still in the running for the UEFA Champions League, with Aston Villa as their next opponents. This positions PSG for a potential historic treble.
PSG’s dominance in the Ligue 1
In 2012, PSG had just two Ligue 1 titles and was still considered an average team in French soccer history. However, under the leadership of president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, the club revolutionized French football starting in the 2012-13 season, winning 11 out of the last 13 Ligue 1 titles.
