Marcus Rashford has officially completed his loan move from Manchester United to FC Barcelona, arriving with clear expectations and lofty objectives. As he settles into the first team, the English forward delivered a pointed message to star Lamine Yamal and the rest of the squad regarding their goals for the 2025-26 campaign.

With Yamal emerging as a cornerstone of the team, Barcelona enjoyed a strong debut season under new head coach Hansi Flick, capturing a domestic treble while playing some of the most entertaining soccer in Europe. However, the Catalan giants fell short in the UEFA Champions League, bowing out to Inter Milan in the semifinals.

Looking to build on last season’s success, Barcelona identified Rashford as a key addition to strengthen their attacking options. The club is currently on its preseason tour in Asia and the Pacific, building momentum and setting expectations for another title-chasing campaign.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Rashford addressed his role and the team’s ambitions, sending a clear message: “I think I can play in different positions, score goals from more positions. It’s just about being able to score goals from different areas of the pitch, and be able to create that threath. Hopefully, we can go one step further than last year and try to win the Champions League as well.”

Rashford has expressed enthusiasm about playing alongside Lamine Yamal before even the negotiations with Barcelona started, but his focus now is clearly on the team as a whole. “There’s a lot of great players, but I knew that before I came here. The quality is very high, the intensity is very high, exactly what we need to maintain throughout the season,” concluded the English forward.

Rashford settling into life at Barcelona

Reinforcing the left wing was one of Flick’s top priorities this summer, with Liverpool’s Luis Diaz also on the club’s shortlist. When the opportunity to sign Rashford presented itself, the German manager moved quickly to secure the English forward in time for preseason preparations.

After initially training individually, Rashford has now begun earning minutes under Flick. He made his unofficial debut in a 3-1 friendly win over Vissel Kobe, playing 33 minutes. In the 7-3 victory against FC Seoul, he came on in the second half and provided an assist to Ferran Torres to cap the scoring.

In both appearances, Rashford replaced Raphinha at the start of the second half, primarily occupying the left flank. Given his versatility across the front line, Rashford is expected to serve as a natural rotation option for the Brazilian, adding both quality and depth to a Barcelona squad with high aspirations this season.
