2018 Champions League Final surpasses 2 million viewers

FOX Sports went out on a high this past Saturday as the final between Real Madrid and Liverpool averaged more than 2 million viewers on U.S. television, according to Showbuzz Daily.

Televised live on the over-the-air FOX network, the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League is the very last game FOX Sports will broadcast from the Champions League after handing over the rights to Turner Sports for the 2018/19 season that kicks off in August.

Viewers that tuned into Saturday’s thrilling 3-1 final saw Kate Abdo hosting the pre-match coverage alongside Ian Joy, Warren Barton and Alexi Lalas. During the match itself, which began at 2:45pm ET, the commentary featured John Strong and Stuart Holden, while Keith Costigan was at the stadium in Kyiv conducting interviews and reporting on the game.

TV viewing numbers for the Spanish-language broadcast of the final on ESPN Deportes were not available as of press time.

The 2017 UEFA Champions League Final between Real Madrid and Juventus averaged 1.7 million viewers on the over-the-air FOX network. Meanwhile, the 2016 final had 1,682,000 viewers.
