Leicester City sack manager Brendan Rodgers after poor form

Brendan Rodgers has been fired by Leicester City after a poor run of form that leaves the club in danger of being relegated from the Premier League.

The pressure had been building on the 50-year-old as the Foxes sit 19th in the standings, having lost four of their last five league games.

The last-gasp defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday came as a final straw for the Irishman as he had been struggling to get results since the start of the season.

The club announced that the former Liverpool and Celtic manager has left the club ‘with mutual agreement’ relieving him of his duties after four years in charge.

Rodgers led Leicester to silverware

Rodgers etched his name the club folklore when he guided them to the FA Cup trophy in 2021 and the Community Shield months later.

Moreover, he had also overseen a fine run to the Europa Conference League semifinal spot last year where they lost to eventual Champions AS Roma.

Rodgers also led the Foxes to fifth in the Premier League standings twice during his reign.

The club statement mentions that assistant manager Chris Davies ad First Team Fitness Coach Glen Driscoll will also be leaving along with Rodgers meaning goalkeeping coach Mike Stowell and first-team coach Adam Sadler will take over the reins immediately.

The future for Leicester

Leicester host Aston Villa on Tuesday evening for a crunch encounter.

Leicester Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha said: “The achievements of the team under Brendan’s management speak for themselves – we’ve experienced some of our finest footballing moments under his guidance and will always be grateful to him and his staff for the heights they helped us to reach on the pitch.”

“Off the pitch, Brendan embraced the culture of the Club and helped cultivate an outstanding developmental environment, particularly during the transition to Seagrave, and provided strong leadership during the unprecedented challenge of the coronavirus pandemic. His place in Leicester City history is assured.”

It will be interesting to see whom the club appoints as manager with just ten games left in the season.

“The task ahead of us in our final 10 games is clear. We now need to come together – fans, players and staff – and show the poise, quality and fight to secure our position as a Premier League club.”
