FIFA Generated $2 Billion Profit From 2014 World Cup

From the 2014 FIFA World Cup, FIFA generated $4.4 billion in revenue and $2 billion profit, which are record numbers for the world soccer’s governing body, according to a report by German business newspaper Handelsblatt.

The revenue figure of $4.4 billion is an increase from the $4 billion generated from the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, whilst the profit remains at $2 billion, the same figure from four years ago.

However, despite the profits, the organization has so far failed to assign over half of the profits, with the money currently sitting in one of FIFA’s fixed deposit accounts. Meanwhile $570 million of the profits is to be divided up amongst the competing nations, with the DFB of Germany collecting $34 million for winning the World Cup. Each World Cup participating nation will collect $160 million as compensation for their players competing in the tournament and $198 million is to be split between the 209 member nations of FIFA.

After accounting for the distribution of the money, this leaves $1.2 billion from FIFA World Cup 2014, sitting in the bank accounts of FIFA.
