Chelsea's Todd Boehly signs Brighton transfer expert

Todd Boehly and Chelsea snatched a transfer expert Brighton & Hove Albion. The west London outfit brought in Paul Winstanley to help bolster their recruitment department. Formerly with the Seagulls, Winstanley was an integral piece of the puzzle that helped make Brighton a Premier League mainstay.

Along with Winstanley, Chelsea have also recently signed former Brighton defender Marc Cucurella, England youth international Zak Sturge and manager Graham Potter. The two players arrived prior to the Potter hiring, but Winstanley most likely received a recommendation by the coach. Potter also brought in his assistant coaches from his former team as well.

New Chelsea owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali released a joint statement on the new hiring. “Paul is going to be a great addition to Chelsea,” said the owners. He’s highly respected and is a key senior addition as we continue to build a world class sporting team with a huge depth of talent, ambition and commitment who will work closely with us to drive Chelsea forward. Paul shares our philosophy and will fit seamlessly into the organization.”

Boehly and company have seemingly revamped the club’s entire recruitment personnel. They also recently signed Joe Shields to co-head the team’s recruitment and talent department.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Chelsea and to continue working with Graham Potter and his team,” stated Winstanley. “There is a real sense of excitement and momentum around the new ownership and this project. I’m looking forward to working with such an outstanding group of colleagues as the club moves into a new era.”

Winstanley’s official role at Chelsea will be director of global talent and transfers. The Blues previously asked Brighton to speak to the transfer guru a month ago and have finally agreed a compensation package. Winstanley spent eight years on the south coast at Brighton.
