Chelsea put three past Leicester in impressive away win

Chelsea put up an impressive performance to beat ten-man Leicester City 3-1 at the King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The result means that the Blues have won their last three games across all competitions to relieve the pressure on manager Graham Potter.

Chelsea Score early

Ben Chilwell opened the scoring for the Londoners with a delightful volley in the 11th minute to settle the nerves for the traveling side. Joao Felix hit the post in the 24th minute following a counterattack before the visitors had a goal chalked off by VAR eleven minutes later when the Portuguese forward once again finished off a fascinating team move.

Leicester, who were made to look pedestrian, rode their luck and equalized in the 39th minute when Patson Daka smashed home with a terrific strike from the edge of the box past Kepa Arrizabalaga in the Chelsea goal.

Potter’s side, however, restored their lead deep into first-half stoppage time when Kai Havertz brilliantly slotted home from Enzo Fernandez’s delightful, lofted ball in behind the Leicester defense. The German flicked the lovely, weighted ball over Danny Ward in the Leicester goal to give Chelsea a deserved lead going into the break.

The Blues were the better of the two sides in the second half but it was Leicester who came close to drawing level in the 65th minute. Kepa misjudged the flight of the ball from a cross, but Connor Gallagher cleared Harry Souttar’s goal-bound effort off the line.

Kovacic secures impressive win

Both Havertz and Mykhailo Mudryk came close to making it 3-1 but were denied first by Ward and then the latter was judged offside to cancel his first goal for his new club.

Mateo Kovacic then made the points safe in the 78th minute with a thumping volley following wonderful build-up play from the visitors. Leicester was reduced to ten men just three minutes before the end when Wout Faes was sent off for a late tackle on teenage striker Carney Chukwuemeka.

The result means that Chelsea stay tenth in the standings with 37 points from 26 games while Leicester have now lost their last four league games and are flirting with relegation in 16th, one clear of the drop zone.
