Financial Fair Play has been an ongoing issue for several European clubs that have spent more than they’ve earned, and now Chelsea finds itself in a position where it must offload players to avoid jeopardizing its spot in the next Champions League.
According to British media, Chelsea is currently facing a €60 million deficit that must be covered through player sales. That figure could increase if the club fails to find new destinations for João Félix, Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell, Renato Veiga, and Axel Disasi. If they remain, their salaries would further widen the financial gap.
This situation may force Chelsea to loan out young prospects like Kendry Páez and Estevão. Additionally, selling a star player such as Moisés Caicedo or Enzo Fernández could immediately resolve the issue in a single transaction, while also easing the wage bill.
If Chelsea fails to reduce the deficit, it will not be able to register its new signings for the Champions League. Repeated violations could lead to further sanctions, including fines, as was the case with FC Barcelona.
To make matters more complicated, head coach Enzo Maresca has requested more reinforcements, which could make achieving a positive financial balance even more difficult—something UEFA has required for the past three seasons.
Chelsea’s new salary offer for Moisés Caicedo
Moisés Caicedo is reportedly set to earn over €15 million per season, making him one of the highest-paid players at Chelsea and in the Premier League. Currently, he earns around €9.2 million annually.
Caicedo started all 38 Premier League matches this season and also featured in the UEFA Conference League final. He played nearly every match in domestic cup competitions. In the Club World Cup, he missed the match against Palmeiras due to suspension.
