Euro 2016

Boateng critical of faltering German attack

Paris (AFP) – German defender Jerome Boateng was critical of his more attack-minded teammates after the world champions were held to a 0-0 draw with Poland at Euro 2016 on Thursday.

Bayern Munich’s Boateng was named man-of-the-match for another fine display as he kept club teammate and Polish star Robert Lewandowski in check.

However, despite Germany being on course to reach the last 16 with four points from two games, he warned they need a more cutting edge up front.

“We didn’t win any one-on-ones up front and the movement (in front of goal) was missing,” he told ZDF.

“We need to be pleased with a 0-0 draw. We must improve our finishing, we play well until the last third, then we can’t get past our opponent and aren’t dangerous.

“We have to improve that or we won’t get far.”
