Univision’s broadcast of the 2nd leg of the Tigres-Club América Liga MX Quarterfinal drew 2 million total viewers, enough to make it the top-rated club soccer match of 2019, and the top-rated Liga MX Quarterfinal in over 2 years. The first leg of the Liga MX Femenil final recently on TUDN averaged 180,000 viewers, making it the most-watched Liga MX Femenil match in so far in 2019. The second leg should continue to see strong numbers, coming just before Saturday’s Liga MX Liguilla semifinals on TUDN. Brazilian giants Cruzeiro relegated for first time

Belo Horizonte (Brazil) (AFP) – Cruzeiro suffered relegation from Brazil’s top flight for the first time in the club’s 98-year history Sunday following a 2-0 home defeat by Palmeiras that triggered ugly scenes inside the ground. Belo Horizonte-based Cruzeiro, who won the last of their four league titles as recently as 2014, were condemned to the second division after ending the season with five losses in a row. Cagliari move fourth as AC Milan get back on track

Milan (AFP) – Daniele Ragatzu struck late as Cagliari snatched a 2-2 draw at Sassuolo to reclaim fourth spot in Serie A on Sunday, as AC Milan beat Bologna 3-2 to return to the top half of the table. But Fiorentina fell to their fourth consecutive defeat, 2-1 at Torino, with coach Vincenzo Montella under increasing pressure with the Tuscan side just five points above the relegation zone. Six-goal Pyramids lay down CAF Confederation Cup marker

Johannesburg (AFP) – African debutants Pyramids of Egypt confirmed Sunday that they are the team to beat in the CAF Confederation Cup after crushing Nouadhibou of Mauritania 6-0 in Cairo. Egyptian Mohamed Farouk and Burkinabe Eric Traore scored twice each and Ghanaian John Antwi and Ivorian Wilfried Kanon once for the expensively assembled side, who led 2-0 at half-time.  It was the seventh victory in eight qualifying and group matches for Pyramids under French coach Sebastien Desabre, with the other game drawn. Joaquin becomes La Liga’s oldest hat-trick hero, Sevilla held

Serb Nurkovic, Colombian Castro star in dramatic Kaizer Chiefs win

Johannesburg (AFP) – Serb Samir Nurkovic scored a hat-trick and Colombian Leonardo Castro scored twice as South African league leaders Kaizer Chiefs came from behind three times to beat Bloemfontein Celtic 5-3 this weekend. Ndumiso Mabena, Congolese Harris Tchilimbou and Siphelele Luthuli put Celtic ahead in the first half and Nurkovic netted twice to leave Chiefs trailing 3-2 at half-time. Everton probe allegations of homophobic chants in Chelsea clash

London (AFP) – Everton have revealed they are probing reports of homophobic chanting during Saturday’s Premier League win against Chelsea. It is alleged the chants were aimed at Chelsea fans by Everton supporters during the home team’s 3-1 win at Goodison Park. “Everton is working in conjunction with Kick It Out and has commenced an investigation into homophobic chanting reported during Saturday’s Premier League game against Chelsea,” an Everton statement said on Sunday. “Both the club and Kick It Out have received reports of a homophobic chant being aimed at Chelsea’s fans by a small section of the home crowd. ...
