It is being reported in Spain that representatives of Brazilian star Neymar and Barcelona will sit down in the coming weeks to discuss renewing the player’s contract at the club.

Neymar’s current deal will expire on June 30, 2018. But the La Liga giants want to secure the 22-year-old forward for a further two years until 2020.

The Barcelona star is currently on holiday in Brazil, but was reached for comment during the inauguration of the Neymar Jr. Institute in the city of Praia Grande.

“I could not be happier at Barcelona,” Neymar told the Catalan daily SPORT.

When quizzed about his rumored contract renewal, the Brazilian responded: “When we talk to the club, I will renew.”

The player’s agent, Wagner Ribeiro, also confirmed that talks between Barcelona and his client will take place in the coming weeks.

This season, Neymar has scored 14 goals in all competitions – one goal shy of equaling his scoring total from all of last season.

The 22-year-old forward already has 54 international caps for Brazil, scoring 35 times for the five-time world champions.

He tallied four goals and an assist during this summer’s World Cup in his home country, but was injured during the quarter-final match against Colombia and missed out on the remainder of the tournament.

Barcelona currently sit second on the La Liga table with 38 points after sixteen matches, one point behind league-leading Read Madrid – who have only played fifteen league games.

Their next match will be on January 4th when they travel to Basque Country to take on David Moyes’ Real Sociedad side.
