No Next Gen PES 2014 Version Gives FIFA 14 A Clear Advantage

Konami announced this week that PES 2014 will not be making an appearance on the new Next Gen consoles and the reason is partly due to developers wanting to produce something entirely new rather than port their existing game over.

On one hand, you could applaud the move as anyone who played Madden 2006 when it launched with the Xbox 360 could attest to how shoddy the game was. On the other hand Konami is further conceding ground as FIFA 14 is set to be on the Next Gen systems although no release time has been set.

In my opinion, I am hoping that PES does eventually come out with a new game for the next gen consoles within the next year because quite frankly, it’s that competition that keeps EA on their toes when it comes to sports games and it’s something that hasn’t been seen in American football games since 2K Sports lost the NFL license to EA.

The biggest question is regarding mods that have helped PES stay toe-to-toe with FIFA. Will roster updates and team changes be allowed on the new systems? PES does allow for partial licensing of some teams and some leagues but the mods and roster updates that many get for the game within days or weeks of release still tend to make PES a strong competitor to FIFA.  But still with no showing this year, one can only wonder how it will impact sales of the new system while die hard PES fans wait it out for a new one. Not only that, there will also still be no Vita version either.

Here’s hoping that PES 15 comes next year to the new consoles with a new engine, bigger and better game modes and some new licensing so we can finally see some serious competition to the FIFA series Next Gen style. My fingers are crossed that Konami makes it happen.

For those of you planning to get the new consoles (Xbox One or PS4), are you disappointed about there being no PES 14 Next Gen gaming? Will you get FIFA 14 to hold you over? Share your opinions below.

  1. Speaking of omissions, is anyone else bummed by the fact that FIFA 14 for PC will not feature the new Ignite engine?

  2. Agree with absolutely everything in this piece. I do wonder how successful PES is here in the states. I know it still has a following in England and abroad.

One small question: what will happen to the prices for the games this fall? Will the price for fifa jump to $70 for the ps4, or will the $60 price point stick for the new consoles and FIFA on the older ones debuting at a discounted rate?

  3. As a fan of both games, I hope they do well on whatever system they will be on. As a disapointed Wii U owner who won’t have any new sports games this year, I suggest people wait awhile before getting a next gen console so they know the PS4 and Xbox1 will have sports games made for them instead of just having a few on launch day and then see the game makers abandon the new systems like they did with Wii U.

  4. After the announcements by Microsoft yesterday to block used games, mandatory internet connection and mandatory kinect, I’m not too fussed about “next gen”. The PS4 is looking more attractive if they don’t follow MS.

    1. I’ve read that PS4 does not have an Internet connection requirement!!!! Not sure about their used games policy.

      1. Well, Sony hasn’t released or said anything so it’s all rumors so far. I’m really hoping they don’t.

  5. PES hasn’t been really great for a long time now. I never thought FIFA would surpass it, especially back in the early 00’s when FIFA was a horrendous product and PES was the most realistic soccer game ever. The last few PES’s have been a pale imitation of its former self, so I hope a revamp turns the series around.

  6. they didnt do the pes good atall i hate there transfer intead of them to do the transfer like wenning 2345.

  7. Where do you see the clear advantage here.Be at least serious for once and do not post stupidities like this.

  8. What Konami is doing is right. Is not everyone in the world who will be able to buy a next-gen console.
Anyway, PES 2014 Graphics are better than graphics in FIFA 14 even without being next gen. Here the subject is “Graphics”, consoles advance because of graphics.

  9. first of all, fifa 13 had better graphics than pes 2013. by better graphics i mean more detailed characters and stadiums and much better animation. despite having inferior graphics pes 2013 STILL looked more realistic. thats because of two things. mainly the lighting but also the color choices used. in pes they just look a lot more like real world shades of color. but in pes 2014 the much more realistic look is there but now with equally good frame rates, animation polish etc…. which means as far as current gen games go pes has superior graphics hands down! will this translate into pes 2014 being a better game than fifa 14? only time will tell. ive always been a fifa man but bought pes 2013 because fifa had become stale and wanted to try something new. i pplan on buying both games this year and ill decide for myself which is better. personally im more looking forward to pes 2014 and if i could only buy one of the two pes would be it. it looks absolutely gorgeous! like i said ive always been a fifa guy but i think fifa has their hands full this year. but only if people give pes a chance. i did i
last year and the way i look at it competition is always good and brings out the best in every competitor. in this case Konami and EA.

  10. tbh pes is better in different ways fifa try to make it realistic pes try to make it more fun for the player to enjoy growing up pes was the best for one reason= IT WAS FUN

  11. plus you will be able to play pes on the nxt gen consoles, ps4 and xb1 will let you play ps3 and x360 so another point to pes
