Burley, a former Scottish international and professional footballer, is a studio analyst for ESPN on the network’s daily soccer studio show, ESPN FC. He will serve in the same analyst role during ESPN’s production of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
Burley, a midfielder, began his international career with the Scotland U-21 National Team in 1992 before moving on to the senior team. From 1995-2003, he made 46 appearances for the Scottish National Team and scored three goals, including Scotland’s goal against Norway in their second of three matches at the 1998 World Cup in France.
He made his professional debut in 1989 with Chelsea in the English Premier League, where he played in 113 matches. In 1997, Burley returned to Scotland to play for the historic Scottish Premier League club, Celtic FC (1997-1999). He also spent four seasons with Derby County (1999-2003). Burley retired from professional football in 2004.
Burley has since made a name for himself as a football pundit, having worked previously for ESPN UK, Setanta Sports and BBC Radio. He regularly contributes columns to Scotland’s Daily Record and was a featured analyst on ESPN’s Press Pass. In 2013, Burley moved to the United States with his family to work as an analyst on ESPN FC.
