Rodrygo transfer: Madrid reject Liverpool bid, set new price

Real Madrid winger Rodrygo’s future has been cast into doubt following the official announcement of Mbappe’s arrival at the club. This significant signing, along with the imminent addition of Brazilian prodigy Endrick, has led to speculation about Rodrygo’s role in the squad and his potential departure.

Since joining Real Madrid from Santos in 2019, Rodrygo has developed into one of the team’s key players. The 23-year-old has been instrumental in Real Madrid’s recent successes, including two Champions League titles and three La Liga victories.

His performances were impressive in the 2023-24 season, where he scored 17 goals and provided nine assists in 51 appearances. Thus, he has cemented his reputation as a rising star in European soccer.

The arrival of Kylian Mbappe has inevitably created a buzz around Real Madrid. However, it has also raised questions about the existing players’ positions, particularly Rodrygo. Including the Frenchman in the squad will likely significantly reduce Rodrygo’s playing time.

This development comes on the heels of the player’s comments before the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund. He hinted at a possible exit and praised Manchester City, further fueling speculation about his future.

Offer already on table from Liverpool for Rodrygo

But Rodrygo’s potential availability has not gone unnoticed. Three Premier League powerhouses—Manchester City, Liverpool, and Arsenal—are reportedly interested in securing his services. The Reds, in particular, have shown a keen interest and are ready to make a substantial financial offer to bring him to Anfield.

Arne Slot’s new side has already made a significant bid of around $127m for Rodrygo, which Madrid have reportedly rejected. Instead, Los Blancos have set a price tag of approximately $161 million for the Brazilian, Sport says. This valuation reflects the club’s recognition of Rodrygo’s talent and contribution; also their readiness to part ways if the right offer comes along.

Funds for bigger fish?

Rodrygo remains under contract with Real Madrid until 2028, a fact that underscores the club’s long-term plans for him. However, his relationship with the management has become strained, particularly with coach Carlo Ancelotti, who has openly declared his preference for other players in key matches. This tension, combined with the competitive nature of Real Madrid’s squad following the arrival of Mbappe and Endrick, has left Rodrygo considering his options.

Madrid’s willingness to entertain offers for Rodrygo is also linked to their broader strategic goals. The potential sale of Rodrygo would not only provide significant financial flexibility but could also pave the way for the club to pursue other high-profile targets, such as Manchester City’s Erling Haaland. Carlo Ancelotti has been eyeing Haaland for several seasons, and the funds from Rodrygo’s transfer could facilitate this long-anticipated move.

In response to the swirling rumors, the Brazilian has attempted to clarify his stance through social media, stating his happiness at Real Madrid and his focus on continuing to make history with the club. However, his earlier remarks and the ongoing interest from Premier League sides suggest that his future remains in flux.
