MLS News and Notes

I spent yesterday afternoon with Real Salt Lake at training. I’ll have a full report on RSL later in the week and a few exclusive interviews next week on the American Soccer Show. Steve Marlet a striker who showed some class in the early part of this decade with Lyon and Marseilles (but did not with Fulham who paid a then record club transfer fee for him from Lyon)is on trial with Chicago. MLS Offseason News and Thoughts

The franchise in its ten years of existence has had three head coaches and two of them have been poached away by the New York franchise. What makes Osorio think he can succeed in New York? Considering Carlos Queiroz and Carlos Alberto Parriera among other big names have failed, why would Osorio be any different? Perhaps Osorio realizes the bad habits he learned at Manchester City from Stuart Pearce and Kevin Keagan won’t work ... Read more

Dynamo Win; Is MLS Really Inferior to the A-League (As has been speculated upon in Britain)

Houston beat Los Angeles 3-1 last night at the Home Depot Center to jump Chivas (who drew with Colorado earlier in the day) in the Western standings and clinch a playoff spot. Chivas USA’s draw with Colorado kept the Rapids just one point behind Chicago for the last playoff spot. I cannot over emphasize the boost Conor Casey whose ... Read more

The Miami Herald reported Monday that the city of Miami is actively seeking an MLS franchise for a proposed new stadium that will replace the Orange Bowl. Last week, the University of Miami Football team announced they would vacate the stadium in favor of Dolphin Stadium. The Boston Globe reports that the Revolution are on the verge of signing Dusan Petrovic, who played for Serbia & Montenegro in 2006 World Cup.
