MLS today announced that the opponent in the 2017 MLS All-Star Game will be Real Madrid in a game that will be played at Chicago’s Soldier Field on August 2, 2017. Initially, Barcelona was invited to play in the MLS All-Star Game but the Blaugrana has instead decided to play Juventus, Manchester United and Real Madrid in three matches across the United States this summer in the 2017 International Champions Cup. FC Barcelona has been invited to play in the 2017 MLS All-Star Game, a source confirmed to World Soccer Talk. A final decision hasn’t been made yet, but if Barcelona does accept the invitation, it’s very likely that the All-Star Game will be played next summer at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois. Viewing audience for MLS All-Star Game declines for 3rd year in a row

For the third consecutive year in a row, TV ratings for the MLS All-Star Game have declined. This year’s game between the MLS All-Star team and Arsenal generated only 513,000 viewers on ESPN during a primetime broadcast that was televised live on Thursday, July 28. Compared to three years ago, the viewing figure for the MLS All-Star vs. Arsenal game dropped 40% from the 2013 game against Bayern Munich. Despite Arsenal’s game against the MLS All-Stars being officially sold out, tickets can still be purchased on the secondary market. With the capacity of San Jose’s Avaya Stadium at only 18,000, it’s no wonder that Arsenal vs. MLS All-Stars is the hottest ticket in town. Tottenham Hotspur will be the featured opponent in this summer’s MLS All-Star Game to be held at the Colorado Rapids stadium near Denver on July 29, 2015.
