Beyond coverage, B/R Live still have technical issues. During the first Europa League group stage match, I logged in to my Roku B/R Live app to watch the Arsenal match and I was immediately greeted with the final score (because of course the default setting is “tell me the final score of the game I’m about to watch”).

Today, I sat down to watch this week’s Arsenal Europa match only for it not to show up on my B/R Live Roku app at all. It does show up on my iphone app, but not on B/R Live.

So, I called their support number. Support is closed. Ok, so how about logging in and seeing if their website has technical support? No dice; the site is stuck on “Loading Your Experience.” (Update: After several minutes it has finally loaded but their tech support section is useless and of course their chat center is closed.)

I’m not watching on my tiny iphone screen. How is B/R so incompetent that can’t pull off basic stuff that ESPN+ and even NBC Gold can handle just fine?

To end on a positive note, there is good news: I can watch the Yankees take batting practice. Good job, good effort Turner.

I’m sure the replay was there somewhere on the Roku app–but one thing I’ve noticed is that actually finding replays can be a mind-boggling process. They’ve certainly improved things since the first iteration of the app, but there are still a lot of confusing things about it. And the online experience might be even worse in terms of organization. Trying to figure out how to sort things by competition should be much more direct and logical.

And I guess it’s a one-device-at-a-time thing? Because I was trying to watch the Arsenal game live while doing some house cleaning, so I had it on the Roku but when I tried to move around the house and watch online all I got was a picture and no way to actually play the video. So annoying.

I’ve never thought I would wish to see the return of Warren Barton but even he is better than watching these clowns. Now if Kate would present in her underwear I think ratings would improve.

Seems TBS/TNT being in more homes than FS1 which broadcast most of the Champions League games before hasn’t led to increase English viewership numbers. Christopher I know you and Kartik talked about the deal being up for negotiations in a 1yr half… where would you like to see the rights go? Do you think ESPN would make a play next go round seeing as though they seem intent on conquering the soccer market. Would be a coup for them putting games on ESPN and ESPN2 and some games on ESPN+.

Oh swell. The faster I get around to learning some Spanish, the better. I was thinking of getting a monthly subscription for the knock out stages, but looks like I will pass unless I read and hear of major improvements.

Absolute shocking . What about the interviews with the players & coaches before and after the games . Fox always gave. the viewers that . Kate Abdo is a absolute fraud . Look David Beckham is in the house . She. should be on some talk show interviewing rich people . Because she is a snob . . the will not allow ESPNFC to show highlights of the games because everybody goes to them for proper analysis not like their amateur attempt . Very few have bought their B/R Live rip – off . They should take a look at NBCSN coverage of the Premier League to see how professionals work .

Great episode worth listening to all the way through. Thank you so much for touching on all that is wrong with Turner’s coverage of the UEFA Champions League.
The in studio analysis is incredibly poor — we’re not learning anything about what has taken place. And the lack of urgency to show us highlights from the other matches is just as disappointing.
They can also drop the whole “Steve Nash is a huge Spurs fan”. That’s cool but I don’t need reminding every 15 seconds. Edgar Davids actually played for them, and that fact is not being jammed down our throat.
Overall, a little too “Bro-y” for me. Kate Abdo is a professional, and I hope that better days are ahead for what is currently amateur hour coverage.

One point you guys neglected to mention about TNT’s coverage was the absurd amount of time they devote to making it known Steve Nash is a Spurs fan. At least half the discussion about the Barcelona match was jokes or laments by Steve or at his expense. I just made it home in time for the start of post match and wanted to see highlights of the matches, fail. The Xtra at 7PM delivered once again however.

As for Univision Deportes, had no issues this week (Napoli/Liverpool) in terms of buffering that I saw the 1st week (Inter/Spurs). Also downloaded the app since the game was very much in doubt and time to go home a bit after HT. No issues watching the rest of the match on the commute home on the train and bus.

‪If you’re gonna throw stones about coverage, how about y’all make sure your podcast audio is on point? I turned it off after the first couple min because Kartik is unintelligible.‬.. ?

We’re not throwing stones. Just sharing our opinions.

The audio gets better after the first couple of minutes. My apologies.

I hate to be that guy but the thing that comes to mind when I think about your podcast is “the British guy and the dude who Skypes him with bad wifi.” I started listening about a year ago, wish you could figure out his recording situation–doesn’t bother me too much but seeing this comment I have to agree.

Sorry it’s not to your liking. In the past few months, we’ve invested in expensive mics and a mixer. Plus we’re no longer using Skype to record the conversations. So the quality is much improved.
