Sky Sports has ventured out to bring football fans a channel dedicated to broadcasting European football. The channel will provide viewers with up to 600 European football matches per season.
Sky will open a new channel ready for the new season and is set to be their 7th Sky Sports channel. Joining Sky Sports 1, 2, 3, 4, News, F1 will be the new Sky Sports 5. The channel will show matches from the qualifiers of the European Championships 2016 in France, the UEFA Champions League, La Liga, Copa Del Rey, Coppa Italia, and other shows which are already broadcast on Sky Sports such as Revista De La Liga and Champions League Weekly.
Sky also announced that they have signed a four-year deal with the Dutch Eredivisie to show the likes of Ajax and PSV Eindhoven. It’s great news for the English fan of Dutch football. Many think that Sky has launched this new channel due to the fact that BT Sport is becoming increasingly popular because they broadcast various European leagues. BT captured numerous European leagues with a huge £875m deal for the exclusive rights to broadcast those leagues.
Sky will launch a new channel for the second time since 1999, after Sky Sports F1 was released two years ago. The channel can now be activated by Sky customers and will go live on August 12.
The channel will be a massive hit. Many people have BT Sport, but don’t seem to like the fact that Michael Owen is featured in the coverage of games. With Sky showing other European Leagues and having punditry genius Gary Neville on their side, this could attract many viewers.
