Soccer fans in the United States can watch the January Transfer Deadline Day coverage live from Sky Sports. Coverage will stream on Monday, January 31 from 8AM to 7PM Eastern Time exclusively on Peacock TV.
In previous years, NBC Sports has televised its own Transfer Deadline Day broadcast that has aired since January 2014. However, with the shutting down of NBCSN as well as a lot of non-sports programming on USA Network, Peacock is the logical option.
Given that Sky Sports News is no longer available in the United States, NBC Sports’ decision to stream Transfer Deadline Day is welcome news. The broadcast feels like an event for soccer fans. Sky Sports builds the anticipation and suspense during the broadcast. Meanwhile, fans agonizingly wait to hear the news whether their club has signed a new star.
Sky Sports News has established the Transfer Deadline Day Show as its main event. It’s commercially successful. But at the same time, it faces competition from reporters such as Fabrizio Romano who often stream news before Sky Sports.
Sky Sports News’ future in U.S.
Sky Sports Transfer Deadline Day has become entertainment. That’s encouraging news for Peacock TV subscribers, who can choose from Premier League games, the Premier League TV Channel and the twice-yearly Deadline Day show.
Questions will be asked why Peacock isn’t streaming Sky Sports News every day. It’s not as easy as some would think. The coverage from Sky Sports News often includes match highlights from several different leagues. Sky Sports News has the rights to show those clips for the United Kingdom only. In the same manner, the show isn’t intended for broadcast outside its own shores.
So, for the time being, Sky Sports News on weekdays has no home in the United States.
Peacock, priced at $4.99 per month (free for Xfinity customers), will begin streaming the Deadline Day Show at 8AM ET. Coverage will feature Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth and Kaveh Solhekol, among others, who will be bringing you the news throughout the day. All of the leagues across the United Kingdom and Europe close their January transfer window on Monday at 6PM ET. That gives the broadcast one hour to announce the final deals before the stream ends at 7PM ET.
With soccer fans often searching for the Sky Sports News Transfer Deadline Day live stream, Peacock TV is the go-to place to watch.
NBC’s Deadline Day Show not a big miss
In many ways, many hardcore soccer fans prefer Sky Sports Transfer Deadline Day to NBCSN’s broadcast anyway. NBCSN’s Deadline Day specials felt more like a recap and analysis. Sky Sports’ coverage has always been about breaking news. The only sticking point for Sky Sports News is when it’s a slow deadline day. Their analysis can be very lacking when they don’t have exciting transfer deals to announce.
Indications are that January’s Transfer Deadline Day will be an entertaining one. There are several major clubs wanting to move players in and out, so the domino effect could result in lots of deadline day drama. For Sky Sports, Peacock and soccer fans, that could be just the news we are waiting for during an international break.
