The National Women’s Soccer League terminated the contracts of two coaches at Orlando Pride. Former head coach Amanda Cromwell and assistant Sam Greene are both now out of a job. This follows a lengthy investigation into misconduct within the team.

An official statement regarding the ordeal claimed that the duo cannot work for the league in the future unless approved by the Commissioner. “Cromwell’s and Greene’s employment contracts are terminated effective immediately,” read the statement. “Cromwell and Greene are ineligible to work in the NWSL in any capacity unless or until approved by the Commissioner.”

“In order to be eligible for future employment in the NWSL, Cromwell and Greene must participate in mandatory training regarding retaliation, discrimination, harassment and bullying, and must participate in mandatory executive coaching, as determined by the Commissioner and at the League’s expense.”

Cromwell took to Twitter to express her feelings on the firing. “I am saddened and disappointed by the results of the NWSL’s investigation released today,” Cromwell said. “I believe the investigation lacked transparency, professionalism and thoroughness. As a result, my character and integrity have been mischaracterized.”

The coach also hinted that she will explore legal options on the ruling as well.

Both Cromwell and Greene had been on temporary administrative leave since June while the investigation took place. Allegations of verbal abuse and favoritism first arrived in the league’s eyes in the spring. Two months later, reports showed two coaches engaged in retaliatory conduct towards certain players.

A thorough investigation determined that these allegations were true. Both Cromwell and Greene reportedly took negative actions towards players that they believed either made the allegations or supported them. The coaches even went as far as attempting to trade or waive these players.

Also, NWSL and the Orlando Pride placed Goalkeeping coach Aline Reis on unpaid administrative leave. According to the report, Reis did not cooperate properly with the investigation. Reis cannot return to her job until she attends mandatory training on the issue.
