Naples (Italy) (AFP) – Napoli have moved to quash speculation surrounding the future of Marek Hamsik by extending the Slovakia star’s contract by two seasons.

“Napoli is proud to release that Marek Hamsik signed a contract extension until 2020,” read a brief statement in English on the club’s website on Saturday.

The 29-year-old Hamsik, who has been at the Serie A side since 2007, starred for his country at Euro 2016 in France.

In their first appearance at the European Championship finals, Slovakia reached the last 16 before losing to Germany.

Hamsik had been linked to a host of Europe’s biggest names but now appears set to stay at Napoli, who recently sold star striker Gonzalo Higuain to Juventus for 90 million euros ($98.8m, £75.3m).
