In a pre-planned move, Jose Mourinho substituted Didier Drogba in his final game for Chelsea.
Not only did the Chelsea legend receive huge applause from the crowd at Stamford Bridge, but the Chelsea footballers carried him off the field in a triumphant end to a historic career at the west London club.
Earlier today, Drogba announced that today would be his last game for Chelsea. And he began the match wearing the captain’s armband.
The Ivorian spent eight trophy-laden years in his first spell at Chelsea before leaving after a leading the Blues to a Champions League triumph in 2012.
He had spells in China and Turkey before returning to London last summer for a second spell under Mourinho who was responsible for signing him back in 2004.
This season, Drogba has made 26 appearances, mostly from the bench, and scored seven goals. In addition, he has added a fourth Premier League Winners medal and a third League Cup trophy to his collection.
