England’s National League is in the middle of a record season thanks to the top two clubs in the division, Notts County and Wrexham. Currently first and second in the league, both are on an incredible season so far.

After 33 games, league-leaders Notts County have racked up an impressive 80 points. In two fewer, Wrexham, however sit on 75 points. No other team in the National League has more than 58 points.

The amazing seasons for both clubs could see multiple records fall in the division. In fact, the league’s official Twitter account is already keeping an eye on four major records that could very well be broken by either team this season.

Impressive win rates could propel Wrexham AND Notts County

The first National League record that could be broken is most wins in a season. Aldershot Town, Crawley Town and Fleetwood Town all currently share the record of 31 wins in the division. Notts County has 24 victories at the moment, while Wrexham has 23.

The Magpies would need to win eight of their last 13 league games to set the record. Wrexham, on the other hand, need nine victories over their last 15 games during this span. Both clubs would have to win just over 60% of their remaining fixtures, which would occur if they remain at their current win rates.

In addition to wins, total league points is also attainable as well. Crawley Town previously set the record of National League points with an incredible 105. Notts County and Wrexham are actually both on pace to beat this record. Assuming points-per-match rates continue, the two clubs would finish tied with 111 points.

Scoring records could also be reached

Team goals in a season is also under threat by the dynamic duo. The National League record for goals scored was previously set by Barnet and Hereford at 103. Notts County currently has 84 goals and Wrexham has 81. If they were to keep their current goalscoring pace, both clubs would reach over 115 goals for the season.

Finally, and perhaps a bit more difficult to reach, is the league’s single season scoring record by a player. Dover Athletic’s Ricky Miller set the scoring record in 2016/17 with an incredible 40 goals. Notts County’s Macaulay Longstaff currently has 30 league goals for the leaders. The 26-year-old striker needs to net 10 goals in his last 13 games to tie the previous record.
