Steve McClaren is to be sacked as manager of Newcastle United and will not be in charge for Monday’s game against Leicester City, according to a report by Sky Sports.

The news outlet is claiming that Rafael Benitez will replace McClaren, and the Spaniard may be in place in time for Monday’s game.

Newcastle United currently sit second from bottom in the Premier League and face the prospect of being relegated to the Championship if their form doesn’t improve. Newcastle has lost its last three matches in a row, and only has one win from its last six matches.

Benitez, who was recently sacked from Real Madrid, is reportedly being offered a 3-year deal with the club and will be able to bring in his own backroom staff.
