Arsenal vs Manchester City, 1970-71 (Video Highlights)

Since there are very few matches on this weekend of note, I thought I’d share with you some video highlights of a classic English football game from the 1970-71 season.

This one features Arsenal against Manchester City played in front of a packed Highbury in north London. With commentary by Brian Clough and featuring players such as Ray Kennedy, Joe Corrigan, Colin Bell, Bob Wilson, the game is interesting to watch to see the differences between now and then. The pitch is something that Arsene Wenger certainly wouldn’t approve of, with the ball bobbling unevenly. But for football purists, there are definitely some legends on display in front of an enthusiastic Arsenal crowd.

Feel free to share your observations below of what you find interesting from the video.

  1. Sports News says:

The 1971 FA Cup Final saw Arsenal beat Liverpool 2–1 to become only the fourth club in history and the second club this century to have won the league championship and FA Cup double.

  2. Len says:

Love it. Looks like City had their hands full, but that was some solid defending, especially in goal. Love to see the crowd so close.

  3. Cody says:

How about how far goal celebrations have come!

  4. Pete says:

No gloves on the keeper, no rolling around on the floor for 5 mins and players lucky if they got £50 a week instead of £250,000 a week like Rooney does today
