Premier League Transfer Deadline Day: Live Blog

The time has come for the final day of the 2011 summer transfer window. Between now and 11pm UK time (6pm ET), we’ll find out which clubs will finalize some last minute deals.

6:57pm: And that completes our transfer deadline countdown today. Hopefully you’ve enjoyed it. Feel free to share your feedback regarding today’s transfers in the comments section below.

6:55pm: Fulham have signed Orlando Sa from Nacional of Portugal.

6:28pm: Arsenal has officially confirmed that they have signed Mikel Arteta from Everton on a four-year deal.

6:26pm: Yakubu has joined Blackburn Rovers.

6:15pm: Sky Sports News is reporting that Mikel Arteta is now an Arsenal player. We are, however, awaiting official confirmation. If the deal does go through, the only question mark about Arteta is his fitness. He’s been very injury prone for Everton, but the footballer is an incredible talent and will play a pivotal role at Arsenal if he can remain fit. For Everton, however, it’s a bit of a blow. They needed the money but they ran out of time to get any replacements. They have signed Royston Drenthe from Real Madrid (although he’s hardly as good as Arteta). Plus they picked up an Argentine striker earlier today.

6:12pm: The deal for Raul Meireles from Chelsea to Liverpool is now official.

6:08pm: A loan deal has been agreed for Niklas Bendtner from Arsenal to Sunderland. Finally, the Danish player has left the North London club. Should be a great opportunity for him to shake off his baggage and start playing games (and scoring goals) for another club.

6:06pm: A deal has been agreed between Chelsea and Liverpool for the transfer of Raul Meireles to Stamford Bridge, but personal terms have yet to be agreed. The deal may still happen, though. This one came out of the blue by Meireles, but if he’s unhappy at not getting enough playing time at Liverpool, what will he think at Chelsea? Definitely a class player, though.

6:02pm: FOX Soccer’s live coverage of Sky Sports will continue until 7pm ET (huzzah). Meanwhile, Sky Sports is hyping things up way beyond reality. Jermaine Jenas, meanwhile, has joined Aston Villa on a loan deal.

5:59pm: Craig Bellamy will be wearing number 39 for Liverpool. The deal for Arteta looks likely to go through for Arsenal, while Stoke is finalizing paperwork for Peter Crouch. Meanwhile, will Niklas Bendtner finally leave Arsenal? And will FOX Soccer keep running Sky Sports or will they go back to their regular programming?

5:51pm: We’re now entering the last few minutes of the 2011 summer transfer window. Will Arteta be going to Arsenal?

5:49pm: Alan Hutton has joined Aston Villa.

5:43pm: Bryan Ruiz has officially joined Fulham

5:41pm: Birmingham’s Scott Dann has finalized his move to Blackburn Rovers

4:50pm: Stoke City are on the verge of signing Wilson Palacios from Tottenham

4:25pm: Southampton’s Jason Puncheon is at Loftus Road for talks with QPR.

4:22pm: Talks between Arsenal and Everton have been renewed regarding the transfer of Mikel Arteta. Arsene Wenger is very keen on the move.

4:15pm: Chelsea came in for a £40m offer yesterday for Luka Modric, which was turned down by Spurs, says Redknapp

4:12pm: Harry Redknapp confirms that the Kaka to Spurs rumor is nothing more than a rumor.

4:05pm: Gary Cahill deal from Bolton to Spurs is not going to happen, says Harry Redknapp.

3:53pm: Nicklas Bendtner is close to securing a transfer from Arsenal to Sunderland.

3:39pm: David N’Gog has completed his transfer from Liverpool to Bolton on a three-year deal.

  1. Wenger too scared to sign the wrong players and have the english press on his ass till next transfer window. Ithink a player like Douglas Costa would suit his system well, a guy like Josue to stabilize the middle and also a young play maker like a rossi.

  2. BREAKING NEWS : ARSENAL Bid £35m For Gaddafi !!!! They’ve Never Seen Him Play But Have Heard That Everyone Is After Him!

  3. can wait 11 o clock at night will be finish other players stay here own teams
wont making different can be behaviour :)

  4. Bellamy has one year left on his contract and according to BBC Sport the two clubs have agreed on a fee. Free?

Bellamy is a very disruptive force in any dressing room, especially since he will be on the bench a lot, and I think Liverpool will live to regret signing him for the reported two year deal. He is also 32 years old so why sign him for 2 years? It will be interesting to see what his wages are going to be.

  5. Liverpool will be sorry for signing a player like Bellamy who is a disruptive force in the dressing room. He won’t be playing much and that is only going to make matters worse. Bad signing by Liverpool

  6. Gutted City only made one signing today! A quality signing was made in Hargreaves but I am gutted SWP has left to go to QPR! he is a city legend!

  7. man united needs one more central midfielder, though not so pressing like the gunners.
viva man united, viva sir alex ferguson but the dutch-inter milan midfielder must come on our side.

  8. Quite a disappointing day for Spurs supporters. Looks like clubs management is no longer on same page. Soccer is so bass ackwards. Rarely would such poorly run American franchises still do well.

  9. Cannot believe Liverpool sold Meireles to Chelsea for 12-13 million. He is a class player. He should have been given the raise he was asking for as the old regime that bought him promised him a raise if he had a good first season which he definitely did. Don’t understand why Liverpool let him leave. He is definitely better than Adam and Henderson combined, talent-wise. Selling him to Chelsea just makes things worse as they are a club that will also be challenging for a CL spot. Liverpool are weaker now and Chelsea stronger. This could come to haunt Liverpool.

Modric puts in a transfer request and Spurs say no to a 40 million offer. Spurs don’t become a weaker side. Meireles puts in a transfer request and Liverpool sell. Liverpool are now weaker.

    1. Kenny D just made his first poor move. Selling Meireles is a mistake. Do the Reds want Europe at the end of the year? I guess they’ll be satisfied with an FA cup run and 5th place.

  10. Liverpool let Miereles leave and bring in Bellamy. I know it’s not like for like but still cannnot understand how getting rid of a class player that was one of last season’s standouts makes Liverpool better. Bellamy is a nut-case and with him sitting on the bench will only make him nuttier. I had high hopes for Liverpool but now I think they’ve blown the chance to be contenders of the title and will have to fight to get a top 4 spot. Bad last few hours of the transfer window for Liverpool.

  11. I agree with Barry that Miereles is without doubt better than Adam and Henderson combined when it comes to technical ability. The guy is class. Just watch him for Portugal and you’ll see how good he is.

  12. Glad to see Arsenal have been active in this window. However, wouldn’t it have been better to see these new players gel on tour last month, instead of straight into the fire? Fans and media may have raised a ruckus after the 8-2 dismantling, but fortunately it happened before the window closed. I’m sure AW would have sat tight (maybe 1 signing, if history tells us anything) if that result wasn’t so horrifying. So now we’ve got half a squad of new players to integrate. Certainly more promising than last week. Let’s see if AW still has the magic.
