Chelsea medic Eva Carneiro was subjected to despicable sexist chants and taunts by Manchester United supporters during the Premier League game between the two sides in October, 2014.
The footage, which was shot by a supporter in the ground at Old Trafford, clearly shows United supporters chanting “get your t*** out for the lads” at Carneiro and club officials as they walked along the touchline near the corner of the stadium.
According to the BBC, this season 25 match-day incidents of sexist abuse have been reported to anti-discrimination campaign group Kick It Out and equality group Women in Football. Last season, there were two reports.
It’s also reported that Carneiro was subjected to sexist chants by Manchester City supporters when Chelsea played at the Etihad Stadium earlier this season.
Dr. Carneiro has been employed by Chelsea since 2009.
According to a spokesperson at Manchester United, “No complaint was made at the time, so any feedback of this nature made after the event has to be referred to the police, which the club did within 24 hours.”
Let’s hope that The FA and soccer clubs try to stamp out this vile behavior from football grounds.
Here is footage of the incident that happened at Manchester United. Please note that the video is not safe for work (NSFW) due to language and sexist taunts.
