Chelsea Beat Man United in Race to Sign Bosingwa

jose bosingwa Chelsea Beat Man United in Race to Sign BosingwaChelsea has beaten Man United in the race to sign right back Jose Bosingwa from Porto for a transfer fee of £16.2 million. Porto FC has confirmed the signing on its official web site, while Chelsea has announced the news too.

Bosingwa will slot in as a preferred right back instead of Juliano Belletti who has had an indifferent season at Chelsea. Paulo Ferreira, meanwhile, will be available as back up if and when Belletti is signed by another club this summer.

Chelsea fans won’t have long to wait to see Bosingwa in action. He’ll be playing for Portugal in this summer’s Euro 2008 tournament.

While the race for the Premier League title is over, the battles in the transfer market are just beginning. Expect to see a flurry of activity in the coming weeks as the top English clubs try to seal deals before the Euro 2008 tournament begins when prices of players may increase (especially if players perform exceptionally well).

I believe his name is Juliano Beletti, not Javier…

  2. Ivan says:

A position that Chelsea have looked to strengthen for a the last year or so. Belletti was always going to be a short term fix. Ferreira is serviceable and is happy to be a squad player. Seen Bosingwa play a few times. He looks the Ramos type (stories about him going to chelsea as well), big strong and good going forward. We’ll have to see whether he justifies his hefty price tag. Scolari is apparently going to drop some out of form players from his squad for euros and one of those players may be Miguel who was touted as one of the best Rb only a year ago.

No shortage of signings by Chelsea this window.

I liked Belletti going forward not so much defending though..Joe Cole and him linked up well..

How do you know he’s leaving in the summer? I’d really hate to see him go.

I just don’t see why this guy is so highly rated. I mean – sure – if you’re playing basketball, I could see the benefit of a 3rd arm. But soccer? I think it would just get in the way.

    LOL @ DaveM.

I hadn’t noticed that at all. Brilliant picture!!

Complete waste of money again from Chelsea. If they had wanted to break the bank for a right full back then they should have just spent a few more on Dani Alves, the best full back in the world. I’d be happy to bet that Bosingwa has a horrible season and leaves at the end of next season.
