Liverpool suffered a shock defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Despite having 75% of the ball and more total shots during the game, the Reds dropped their third Premier League match of the campaign. It was also the seventh time that the Merseyside club has dropped points in just 11 matches.

When asked if his side deserved a victory on the day, Klopp was ambivalent. “I’m not sure,” the coach told beIN Sports in his post-game interview. “Deserve? We conceded a goal after a massive mistake, which we made. Unnecessary. Completely unforced actually, but that happens.”

Forest shock Liverpool; Pressure on Klopp

While the teams actually had the same amount of shots on target during the match, Klopp claimed that Liverpool helped Forest in their attack. “But all the chances that they had, we gave them by playing the wrong passes,” stated Klopp. “All of the chances they had were counterattacks when we gave them the ball in moments when you cannot give them the ball.”

The manager also added that his team squandered multiple easy chances in front of goal as well. “And then we had five or six clear cut, 100% no-brainers after set pieces,” said a frustrated Klopp.

“We should have won this game, but we didn’t. And there’s a reason for it, because we were in one moment not focused enough. And maybe the other side the same reason, I don’t know. We usually put these chances away, but we didn’t and that’s a reasonable result.”

Injuries have clearly affected this Liverpool side. Thiago Alcantara and Darwin Nunez both picked up new issues prior to the weekend. The midfielder is currently suffering from an ear infection, while Darwin has a minor muscle injury. Klopp did, however, say that both of these players should be ready to play next week.

The Liverpool loss leaves the team sitting seventh in the Premier League table after 11 games.
