HomeWorld Soccer Talk: Live broadcastsWorld Soccer Talk: Live broadcasts 4 Comments Marc Janssen November 6, 2015 This is something no one else is going to talk about, and it probably deserves some attention.Mark Wheeler announced on MFLS that 2015 as their last season. In the late nineties and early naughts MFLS was the primary MLS fantasy game with I don’t know how many thousand players; I want to guess at over 30. It built a community like Big Soccer and Du Nord, that kept fans connected and enthused about the game, and in its own way is partly responsible for growing the sport over the last twenty years. It was the first and iconic, it was a class act and I’m going to miss it.Take care,Marc JanssenHere is his notice:MFLSers, After 20 years of running MFLS, I have decided that the 2015 season is the last. When Steve Taranto and I started this back in 1995, our goal was to provide a form of entertainment to deepen fans’ bond with the fledgling league by giving them more reason to follow the players and teams more closely. While fantasy sports games existed via mail at the time, ours was the first web-based fantasy soccer game that we were aware of. At the time, MLS was on fairly risky footing and I did anything I could to provide an internet presence to the league and to spice up interest for fans with a full-on fantasy league. I’m very happy to see the league on such a solid footing now and a league for American kids (and my kids) to grow up following. As an Earthquakes fan, the hard fought dream of a real home for the team has been realized as well…and it’s awesome! It’s clear MLS and its clubs have come a long way, but I believe the best is yet to come.MFLS has been a fun ride, but the time committment of operating the site has gotten more difficult as my family and work committments have grown. For the last several years, I have not been able to find time to upgrade the site as I would have liked. Over the years, other sites, some with official backing and promotion by the league, have stepped up to provide high quality fantasy leagues for MLS fans. So I think it’s time to step aside.I’d like to thank all the people who helped to keep the data as up to date and accurate as possible over the years, especially Dan Chiariello and Joe Schlageter. Thanks to Kerry Kaszak and Preston McMurry for their help keeping things clean on the forums over the years.I’d also like to thank Paul Navarre of Net Interaction for his generous help hosting MFLS.com for the last 12 years. His quick attention to every need of ours was greatly appreciated. Thanks to all the MFLS managers who participated over the years and thanks for your many kind comments and notes of appreciation…that’s what kept me going for so long. It was a lot of work, but it was also a lot of fun. I will miss it.Yours in soccer, Mark Wheeler Reply YoYo December 21, 2015 Gaffer, you’ve got to get ride of the “live audio stream”. It’s NEVER actually “live”. it overlaps with the video stream which IS actually “live” and whenever i try and press stop, it stops and then starts up again within 30 seconds. it makes the experience of trying to listen to the actual “live” part of the show impossible. the mute button also doesn’t work on it so that’s no good either. The fact that its not actually live and is just an older episode is probably a problem with the source. On backheel its not live eithere so just do the right thing and get ride of it all together. The if people are wanting to listen to older episodes that option is available on the live video stream screen. Reply Christopher Harris December 21, 2015 Thanks for the feedback. Moving forward, we’ll remove the audio player and will feature the YouTube video clip only. Listeners and viewers, let me know if there are any issues with that decision or if you have any concerns or questions. Reply horsewhistle January 18, 2016 The live audio is hit and miss but I prefer it to video, as I like to listen at work and streaming video draws the ire of our IT department. Hopefully the issues can be resolved and audio be brought back! ReplyLeave a Reply Cancel reply Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment.
