Umbro has released a reimagined series of shirts for soccer fans.  The Nations’ Collection consists of eight jerseys that have a creative take on each country’s colors.  The collection was released ahead of the upcoming World Cup in Qatar. Most importantly, it includes an alternative to Nike’s much derided USMNT away shirt.

Umbro’s USA away kit: A better alternative for USMNT fans?

In the collection that includes soccer heavyweights Brazil, France and Germany, among others, the United States also gets a shirt in the collection. Umbro’s design of the USA away kit features a light blue collarless shirt, which includes red and white triangles covering the design.  Outside of the ominous eagle crest design on the chest, this shirt certainly looks better than some of the official Nike designs for the USMNT.

Speaking of the crests, each shirt features a bespoke badge on the left side of the chest.  These designs essentially reimagine each country’s emblem.  Three Lions are stitched on to the England shirts, the U.S. shirt has an eagle, and so on.

Inspired by players instead of Nike “designers”

“These jerseys were designed by us, but they were inspired by many players, many moments, and all the fans around the world,” said Helen Hope, Umbro’s Global Head of Brand Marketing.  “A fitting tribute to the legends of past glories and the importance of this competition.”

One of the England shirts takes inspiration from their famous 1990 aqua third kit.  Undoubtedly a favorite by Three Lions fans, the shirt consists of a light blue base with a geometric design running throughout.  A darker blue collar polishes off the beautiful design.

Most remarkable design out of the collection

Perhaps the other standout of the collection is the Brazil shirt.  Undeniably similar to their classic 1994 home jersey, the shirt features a bold yellow shirt with subtle monochrome accents.  The green collar and number 22 on the back also adds a nice touch.

Along with the Brazil, England, and the U.S., Umbro also created shirts for France, Germany, Mexico, Poland, and Spain as well.  Coordinating soccer balls and sweatshirts complete the entire collection.

The alternative Umbro shirts are available from umbro.co.uk beginning October 7, 2022.
