Each season, there is a storyline to follow in the Premier League. A club outside the top six makes a run at either the top four or top six. In the modern day, both are good enough to guarantee European competition for the following season.

In 2021/22, West Ham United flirted with the top four. Eventually, the more expensive sides established their dominance over the hammers. Leicester City is a regular candidate to pull out results and compete for the top four. In fact, in both 2020/21 and 2019/20, the Foxes finished in fifth. Moreover, they finished a combined five points in those two seasons outside the top four.

The nature of an underdog does not even have to be in those elite positions at the end of the season. For instance, Brighton and Hove Albion finished the season in ninth. Not a bad finish for the club, especially considering its last four seasons before that yielded finishes in 15th, 17th, 15th and 16th. Therefore, if you had Brighton as a team flying under the radar last season, your premonition paid off.

Looking ahead to this season, which club could face a similar fate to Brighton and Hove Albion from last season?

Which Premier League teams are flying under the radar this season?

We want to know your pick for the underrated teams of 2022/23. Early contenders are Newcastle, with their new takeover and funding. Or, perhaps one of the newly promoted sides, Nottingham Forest, Fulham and Bournemouth, can shock some people this season. The best finish from a newly promoted side is third. However, it would be hard to put one of those teams past one of the traditional big boys.

This could be one of those teams as well. Is Manchester United’s new manager Erik ten Hag ready to lead the club back to glory? What about Tottenham? Spurs closed the past season on a strong run of form. Now, it looks to capture its first trophy since the 2007/08 League Cup.
