One of the most exciting things about a being a music fan is discovering a new artist that seems to have a bright future.

The same applies with soccer fans, learning about a wonder kid is always exciting, even if they don’t play for your favorite team. Earlier this year, the soccer world was introduced to Erling Haaland when he moved to Borussia Dortmund and went on a prolific goalscoring run. Since the Premier League’s restart, Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood has put himself on the map.

He made his first start for Manchester United in the Europa League against Astana on September 19, 2019. United won the match 1-0 and Greenwood scored the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute. With the strike, he became the youngest goalscorer in a European competition in the club’s illustrious history at 17 years and 353 days. After the match, his manager spoke about his efficiency as a goalscorer, even though he is a precocious teenager.

“We always know that in and around the box, he [Greenwood] is one of the best finishers we have got,” said Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to Sky Sports.

The ambidextrously footed forward has scored five goals in the last three matches. Overall, in 41 appearances for the Red Devils, Greenwood has scored 16 goals. He has played mostly on the right wing so that he can cut inside and shoot with his favored left foot, but he projects to be a central forward down the line. Some people believe that the 18-year-old is the best player Manchester United’s academy has produced since Paul Pogba and the World Cup-winning midfielder has high praise for the youngster.

“I enjoy this kid in training and in the game, and I will keep pushing him to be at the top. He has so much to do again, he can do even more, and what he is doing right now is just talent. And he’s showing he can play in this team,” said Pogba following his club’s 3-0 victory against Aston Villa in which Greenwood scored.

Greenwood has scored five goals in the last three matches. Some people are considered that he may be fatigued and lose form due to all of the minutes he’s been playing but his gaffer is not concerned.

“At that age he has so much energy, he has no fear, you just want to play football. If we had a day off, he’d probably go and play football with his mates. I’m not worried about Mason this season, of course we have to look after him over his career. He is a fantastic boy to work with and he just loves playing. He is getting rewards for his hard work,” said Solskjaer to Sky Sports.

The rumors of the Red Devils acquiring Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho has received some backlash from a small group of fans. Some believe that the side should focus on improving their backline instead. Also, signing Sancho would deter Greenwood’s development. That doesn’t have to be the case as Sancho is versatile enough to play on both flanks as a winger and as a no. 10. The 2018-19 Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year can also play on both flanks and as a central forward.

Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford probably should be more nervous if Sancho arrives because Greenwood looks like he’s determined to be a fixture for United for a long time.
