EPL Commentators on NBC: Aug. 24, 2018

NBC Sports’ live Premier League coverage continues this week, highlighted by Liverpool hosting Brighton & Hove Albion this Saturday, August 25, at 12:30 p.m. ET on NBC and Universo. Liverpool hosted Brighton in the final match of last season, when Mohamed Salah broke the record for the most goals in a 38-game Premier League season (32 goals) and claimed the league’s Golden Boot award. Brighton & Hove Albion come off a 3-2 win over Premier League powers Manchester United, with all three goals scored in the first half, while the Reds come off a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace.

Following the match Saturday at 12:30 p.m. ET on NBC is a live Goal Zone hosted by Rebecca Lowe, who will be joined by former U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder Kyle Martino and former Premier League footballer Robbie Mustoe. In addition, former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg will join the studio as a guest throughout the weekend, discussing key refereeing decisions and themes. Lowe also hosts Premier League Mornings and Premier League Live joined by Martino and Mustoe this week.

Last Saturday’s NBC match – a 3-2 Chelsea win over Arsenal – posted a Total Audience Delivery average of 1.14 million viewers (1.07 million viewers on NBC) to rank as the second-most watched August Premier League game on record. In the thrilling match, the Gunners fought back from two goals down to level the score, before Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso scored the game winning goal in the 81st minute.

This week’s live Premier League action begins Saturday at 7 a.m. ET with Premier League Mornings on NBCSN, followed by Wolverhampton Wanderers against defending champions Manchester City at 7:30 a.m. ET on NBCSN and Universo. Man City come off a dominant 6-1 win over Huddersfield Town, including a hat trick by Sergio Aguero.

Saturday at 10 a.m. ET, Arsenal face West Ham United on NBCSN and Universo, as the Gunners’ first-year head coach Unai Emery seeks his first win with the club. Also Saturday at 10 a.m. ET, NBC Sports Gold presents three exclusive matches: Bournemouth v. Everton; Huddersfield v. Cardiff City; and Southampton v. Leicester City.

Live coverage this Sunday, August 26, begins at 7:30 a.m. ET with Premier League Mornings on NBCSN, followed by Watford v. Crystal Palace. Coverage continues Sunday at 11 a.m. ET with Newcastle v. Chelsea on NBCSN and Telemundo. Also Sunday at 11 a.m. ET, NBC Sports Gold presents Fulham v. Burnley.

Sunday at 2 p.m. ET, NBC presents a new episode of This is Football, hosted by Joe Scarborough. In the series, Scarborough, co-host of MSNBC’s Morning Joe and a longtime Premier League fan, will take viewers inside the history, tradition and rivalries between the clubs and their supporters. In Sunday’s episode, Scarborough travels to Stamford Bridge, to visit Chelsea, one of the most prominent clubs in the Premier League. The show was filmed in the days leading up to the Blues’ match against Liverpool in May.

On Monday, August 27, at 3 p.m. ET on NBCSN and Universo, last season’s third-place finishers visit last season’s runners-up as Harry Kane (30 goals last season, second-most in PL) leads Tottenham into Old Trafford to face Paul Pogba and Manchester United. NBC Sports Group’s lead Premier League play-by-play commentator Arlo White calls the match, joined by analyst Lee Dixon. Coverage begins Monday at 2 p.m. ET with Premier League Live on NBCSN.
